    • Lifewise

Don’t see your plan listed? Additional insurances are being added—feel free to reach out with questions.

Please note: Most insurances generally do not cover true couple’s therapy, where the relationship itself is the client. This is because insurance generally covers specific services related to the qualifying diagnoses or conditions of an individual. However, these conditions usually also impact the individual’s closest relationships, and therapy can include work with significant others (partners, children, parents, siblings, friends) as part of a holistic plan tailored to the individual and their ecosystem. Employee Assistance Programs [EAPs] are generally not based on a diagnosis and can offer significant broader, brief support

Dr Melissa Hoefer-Kravagna, DHSc, MSW, LICSW

Psychotherapist

Sometimes life hits us with unimaginable stress and complexity, and it can feel like the layers are piling on endlessly. I am here to help you make sense of these circumstances and figure out a way through.

Other times, we carry an unspeakable weight of cumulative past traumas and have nowhere to begin to unpack the tangle of thoughts, emotions, and reactions that come up. It can often feel like the ones closest to us don’t fully understand why we are, the way we are. I am here to help you sort out the pieces and give a safe place to the things that haven’t had a place to be spoken yet.

My goal is to truly listen to your experiences and partner with you to begin making the internal and external changes you’re craving. Everyone holds the power to bring change into their lives and shift from simply surviving to genuinely thriving. Sometimes, a fresh perspective and personalized support can move us closer to realizing that potential.

Background —I am an independently licensed social worker with a doctorate in health science, and can move flexibly between multiple disciplines. As a social worker, I am an activist at heart and believe that understanding a person must include deeply understanding the relational and environmental ecosystems they move in. My first doctoral program in clinical psychology provided a strong foundation in Jungian and archetypal psychology, and fostered a lifelong interest in psychodynamic psychotherapy, complex diagnosis, dream analysis, and object relations work. My Health Sciences work has allowed me to further hone my skills in systems analysis and evidence-based practice, while also developing a deep understanding of the nuances of healthcare systems and health practice.

My Approach — My approach is eclectic, drawing from psychodynamic and psychoanalytic traditions—reimagined through a practical, client-centered lens. I incorporate expressive and movement-based therapies alongside traditional talk therapy to co-create a treatment path that aligns with your unique needs, values, and goals. My specific tools include DBT, EMDR, cognitive behavioral approaches, and traditional psychotherapy; although there is no one-size-fits-all approach, and not every client will want or need every tool.
