About Melissa

Background —I am an independently licensed clinical social worker with a doctorate in health science, and can move flexibly between multiple disciplines. As a social worker, I am an activist at heart and believe that understanding a person must include deeply understanding the relational and environmental ecosystems they move in. My first doctoral program in clinical psychology provided a strong foundation in Jungian and archetypal psychology, and fostered a lifelong interest in psychodynamic psychotherapy, complex diagnosis, dream analysis, and object relations work. My Health Sciences work has allowed me to further hone my skills in systems analysis and evidence-based practice, while also developing a deep understanding of the nuances of healthcare systems and health practice. I have practiced independently for 15 years, and have over two decades of experience in providing therapeutic services to individuals, couples, families, and groups; and have worked in community mental health, hospital and emergency settings, private practice, and multiple recovery programs.

My Approach — My approach is eclectic, drawing from psychodynamic and psychoanalytic traditions—reimagined through a practical, client-centered lens. I incorporate expressive and movement-based therapies alongside traditional talk therapy to co-create a treatment path that aligns with your unique needs, values, and goals. My specific tools include DBT, EMDR, cognitive behavioral approaches, yoga-informed somatic therapy, and traditional psychotherapy; although there is no one-size-fits-all approach, and not every client will want or need every tool. I look forward to collaborating with you on your journey!
